There are a wide range of activities in the local area, here a just a sample:





Excellent salmon and brown trout fishing on Cong river and Lough Corrib.

Gillies and boats can be arranged.




There are endless walks through Cong woods and Ashford Castle Estate. For the more adventurous there's nearby Mount Gable and the Connemara mountains. The famous Croagh Patrick is only 45 minutes drive away.

For road cyclists there are routes through Connemara to suit all. Many of the routes have been used on the Tour or Ireland and boast some breath taking scenery.

Mountain bikers have many cross country routes through Cong/Clonbur Woods and the Demoura MTB Trail only 30 minutes away in Oughterard.

Cong is an excellent base for playing some of the finest golf courses in the west of Ireland. Ashford golf course, Westport golf club, Ballinrobe golf club, Connemara links Ballyconnelly and Galway Bay golf club are all within driving distance.




Ashford Equestrian Centre provides training or treks through Cong Woods and Ashford Castle Estate.

The centre is a mere 5 minute drive from the Cosy Loft.



Canoeing / Kayaking

Excellent canoeing and kayaking is on offer on Cong river and Lough Corrib. Available through autumn/winter on the famous Cong Dry Canal.




Irelands School of Falconry offers an unrivalled opportunity for you to fly a Harris Hawk on the spectacular grounds of Ashford Castle.

Cave Exploration

The Cong area has some unique karst developments where all the drainage of Lough Mask discharges via underground routes, creating many spectacles such as the Pigeon Hole and Ballymagibbon Caves.
